Need a Modification Plate for a car, 4wd or caravan?

A modified vehicle is recognisable and sometimes powerful. Modifications – often called mods – can enhance performance, suit a specialised purpose such carrying special needs persons or increase/decrease the vehicle carrying capacity.

If you intend to modify your vehicle above manufacturers specifications, you will need to obtain a Modifcation Plate. The Modification Plate ensures all modifications have been undertaken in a manner in which complies with Queensland Transport regulations and guidelines, ensuring the vehicles safety.

Modified vehicles must comply with vehicle standards and guidelines, as set out by the Queensland Department of Transport, before a modification plate can be approved. Read the following documents for standards and guidelines:

If you have any questions regarding this information, please do not hesitate to ask your mechanic during your Modification Plate assessment or call Auto Inspections Qld on 1300 002 032.

What happens during a Modification Inspection?

The vehicle will be inspected and approved to compliance, safety and roadworthy standard by a qualified Auto Inspections Qld examiner; if the vehicle is found compliant, our Auto Inspections Qld approved person will issue the modification plate. The vehicle will then be fitted with a Modification/Compliance plate, a small engraved metal plate that will be attached to the vehicles chassis.

Some common modificatons include:

  • Engine changes
  • Carrying capacity changes
  • Ute Tray-Black changes
  • light and Indicator replacement
  • Seating Capacity
