Who can issue a safety or roadworthy certificate?
    • These certificates can be issued by a qualified mechanic accredited as a Queensland Transport approved examiner.
    • All approved motorbike examiners must hold a current Queensland motorbike drivers license. Feel free to ask the examiner to produce this at the time of inspection!
    • For private motorbike sellers, Safety Certificates / Roadworthy Certificates are valid for two months or 2000 kilometres (whichever occurs first). For an approved motor dealer, the validation period is 1000 kilometres or 3 months.
How long are safety certificates valid?
    • For private motorbike sellers, safety certificates and roadworthy certificates are valid for two months or 2000 kilometres (whichever occurs first). For an approved motor dealer, the validation period is 1000 kilometres or 3 months.
What happens if I have a defect and fail the inspection?
    • Queensland Transport allows fourteen days for repairs to be undertaken.
    • Once your motorbike is repaired, book your re-inspection.
    • If repairs are completed to the Code of Practice, you will be issued with a safety certificate for your motorbike.
Where should I display the safety certificate?
    • Handwritten safety certificates, or blue cover label, must be displayed in a prominent area such as the front forks or guard.
    • The information must be clearly visible from the outside of your motorbike.
    • Electronically issued certificates do not need to be displayed on your motorbike. You must, however, be able to produce it when requested by a police officer, buyer, transport inspector or buyer's agent. This can be printed or via an electronic device such as a smartphone, computer or tablet.
